Choosing a groom has never been easier for the typical arrange marriage oriented family these days. They just head to the mall, look for the varieties on offer, choose the best product off-the-shelf after carefully evaluating the price tag, quality benchmarks and the country of origin.
If imported, it is certainly a big buy, even if there are minor quality issues who cares? But if degrees are premier,love is certain. Rest can and will be blissfully ignored. Compatibility ? Huh ? What’s that got to do with marriage?
So when an elitist and sexist offensive advert splashed on a national newspaper, it drew a huge backlash, I was taken by surprise. Didn’t we do this to ourselves? The gentleman duly apologized for the mistake , but it is a classic case of shooting the messenger when the whole society or at least a large part of it is behind this mindset. But who’s listening?
